This post is to expand our knowledge of just WHY coffee is so beneficial to men and women. We drink it EVERY DAY and yet I am sure most of us don’t think twice about its benefits. At a minimum, the basics come to mind. We know it makes us go to the bathroom, makes us more alert and contains antioxidants. That isn’t really telling us much so I am going to do some research and dive into 10 HEALTH BENEFITS we receive from DRINKING COFFEE!
#10 – Reduced Risk for Type 2 Diabetes
According to WebMD and the research of Frank Hu, MD, MPH, PhD, nutrition and epidemiology professor at the Harvard School of Public Health, people who consume more six or more cups of coffee per day are 35% LESS likely to develop Type 2 Diabetes than people who drank less than two cups of coffee daily!
#9 – Reduce Risk for Heart Disease and Stroke!
With a reduced risk of Type 2 Diabetes, health professionals can deduce that HEART DISEASE and STROKE risks are decreased as well, since Type 2 Diabetes naturally increases those ailments. A 2009 study on 83,700 nurses, shows that those who drank 1-3 cups of coffee daily had a 20% lower risk of STROKE, regardless of cholesterol or blood pressure!
#8 – Alzheimer’s Disease
Another 2009 study followed 1,400 people over 20 years realized that people who drank 3-5 cups of coffee per day were 65% LESS LIKELY to develop Alzheimer’s Disease!
#7 – Dementia Slowing and Prevention
Studies have concluded that the main ingredient of coffee, which is caffeine has a slowing effect of the onset of dementia in men over a 10-year span. I mean if you think about it caffeine works as a stimulant in the brain and dementia is a disease that slows the brain down. Very cool stuff! Coffee for the win!
#6 – Cancer – Is an S.O.B!!
We are forever at war with cancer and though there is no real cure other than treatments and experimental drugs, coffee has been show to decrease signs of liver cancer. The proof is not conclusive and is more based off of small findings that MAY indicate the possibility of reduced risk. So cancer is not really scientifically backed, although I WISH IT WAS!! s, I included cancer because the notion makes us feel better and enough people say coffee reduces the risk, that WHY NOT! Let’s put the power of our minds to action and believe it does!
#5 – Antioxidants
Once cooked, COFFEE BEANS release antioxidants known as QUANINE, which are known for disease fighting. The American Chemical Society reports that coffee is the number one source of quinine and MAGNESIUM in American diets due to its popularity.
#4 – Lower Blood Sugar
The magnesium in coffee is known to lower blood sugar! How bout that!
#3 – Increased Awareness and Focus
Because coffee is a stimulant it can mimic stronger stimulant drugs used for ADHD. The result is essentially a drink that works as a mild drug, by increasing AWARENESS and CONCENTRATION. This fact actually dates back to the discovery of coffee when monks boiled their coffee beans until the water turned brown and noticed better concentration, meditation and increased working.
#2 – Headaches
According to the National Headache Foundation, COFFEE with the use of acetaminophen and aspirin can be used to treat headaches and migraines. This is because headaches and migraines are caused by vasoconstriction in your brain, which causes the blood flow to slow down. Caffeine has a reverse effect on the blood flow. Pretty cool!
Coffee can also cause headaches if you drink more than two cups per day and become dependent on it. Only 2% of the population gets what they call caffeine rebound where this effect happens.
#1 – Increased Productivity
This is my favorite part about coffee and the results ultimately assist in a healthier mental state of mind. If we are more productive, the hope is that we are more successful and in return a happier state of mind. It may seem like a reach, but it depends on how you aim to view things! I think of coffee as my daily multivitamin…

- Coffee is healthy by itself. Coffee condiments have their own negative effects on the body and some of them may counter the positives of coffee.
- There are some coffee products that increase coffees benefit like MCT Oils and grass fed butter.
