This post is going to be dedicated to ways you can sample specialty coffee beans crafted with care for FREE! This is a great way to expand your palette and decide whether you like the coffee before you buy more.
DISCLAIMER: I must warn you, some coffee roasters do not have a consistent rating of beans across the spectrum from light to dark… Using Starbucks as the lamest example, I can’t think of a good light roast they have ever carried, Veranda or their Blonde… meh. If you go to a coffee shop and try their dark roast, you may find it bitter and completely dissatisfying. However, that same coffee shop may have an AMAZING light roast. So, if you sample free beans, remember what they give you may not reflect their entire craft. I would prefer a coffee shop with a perfect score across the board but beggars cannot be choosers. EXCEPT for in this case I guess. 🙂
The List – In no particular order…
#10 – Blue Bottle Coffee
I just ordered a free sample from these guys today. I just have to cancel the subscription when I receive the coffee beans in order to not be charged for another bag. I have had Blue Bottle Coffee before and it is good. Unfortunately, I only had the pleasure of tasting their cold brew, since it was summer in Los Angeles. Anyway, give em a try!
#9 – Sightglass Coffee
I have my free sample on the way! Same as above, a free sample bag gets you a subscription if you do not cancel within the specified time frame. So if you just want a taste make sure you cancel in time, otherwise you may continue getting more coffee, which may not be a bad thing. 😛 These guys are currently offering free holiday shipping for 2017 (excluding subscriptions). They have everything you need to get started with coffee as well. I just saw some really cool brewing kits for a decent price.
#8 – Groundwork Coffee
I actually used to work here, so when I saw that they were doing free coffee samples I smiled. All of their coffee is organic from what I remember. They have an amazing Mexico and Ethiopia. Definitely give them a go. The free sample authorizes a charge of 17 dollars every 15 days unless you cancel before.
#7 – Peets Coffee
I wouldn’t consider Peets coffee a specialty roaster or Artisanal. They are more of an alternate Starbucks option with a larger variety of roasts. Regardless, they offer a free trial subscription. They have a nice little system online of picking what beans you like, which then takes you to a subscription form and the first shipment is FREE on them!
A guy named Sean from Los Angeles set out to find the best fresh roasted coffee beans in the city. When the mission failed he started Mustache Coffee Club, which curates different beans and roasts them for a limited time. These are craft quality roasts and Sean offers a free trial with a continuing subscription if you like the beans! Definitely a different take!
#5 – Purity Coffee
This company poses their organic coffee as being an excellent health benefit. It looks like they only offer one roast option, which is medium and one bean. Worth a shot!
#4 – Camano Island Coffee
Out of Washington State this coffee roaster is Organic, Shade Grown, Top 1% Arabica Specialty Grade and Fairly Traded. They give you 1 POUND of coffee for free. Out of curiosity and grand claims, I subscribed and will review their Brazil Medium Roast when I get it in the mail. Give it a go!
Here we have a company that has a try for free, cancel anytime offer and provides coffees roasted from multiple different roasters located in Seattle. Kind of cool thing that you get multiple different shops in one box.
#2 – Verve Coffee
Another California based coffee shop. I have tried their coffee and it is GOOD! A bit pricey, but worth the taste! They send you 50grams of coffee and give you 14 days to cancel recurring payments.
#1 – Reanimator Coffee
These guys were pages down in my search for free trials but they are actually a local coffee roaster here in Philadelphia and one of my favorites. Definitely take advantage of their free trial offer!
So the list could probably go on…
But due to time constraints I am going to leave the list at 10 coffee trial offers. Please try them and post your thoughts and comments on here! Share your review with the community of coffee lovers!
